Homesickness

There isn't a day that passes that one of my children doesn't whine about "missing home."  Remick misses other people to play with and visit. Makili misses his space and down time. It is interesting how much they crave the routine and rhythm of home. It has made me think about that. How do we encourage children to be adventurous and embrace change, especially when home will be there again soon enough.  Is that something we want children to be able to do?  Will they learn from this experience that life waits for them at home while they are growing and expanding?  That is what I learned 20+ years ago when I was an exchange student for a summer.  I hope when we are home they will have positive memories from this adventure that will give them the courage to take future adventures.

Adirondacks at their most glorious.

Too short really but oh so glorious.

Cobble hill - lake placid

From Makili: the beach was fun. We went swimming and got soaked and we had to bike the rest d the way in wet pants.

The farmers market was amazing. I bought this flavored but butter and blue berries and maple candies. It was all delicious.

Looking for champ.

This coul conceivably be the most beautiful day in the history of the world.

Clyde river

Remick: the best part of our trip today was seeing a river otter and a muskrat. I liked when I would set down my paddle and my hands would glide through the water.

Scrabble

From Makili:

Scrabble is awesome. It is about making words. It is hard. It takes a long time sometimes especially when dad keeps saying "mom, the timer is on!"  The best word I had was Briquet and I would have gotten the bonus if I could have played it but I couldn't. So I played quick and got 45 points!

Town green

Listening to the somewhat crappy band on the village green in lyndonville, vt. Remick, it turns out, may have found his calling - conducting.

In the RAIN:

From Remick:

We went biking and we met up with some people that we know from our hotel.  They have kids that are the same age as me and Makili.  We were biking and all of a sudden, it started raining.  I wanted to go home!  There was lightning and thunder and we got pretty wet.  The trails sort of sparkled in the rain.  I got a little bit dirty.  Mom thought biking in the rain was awesome.

Also, Remick lost another tooth in the middle of the night!  (3:30am to be exact!)

Comments from remick

At breakfast this morning upon listening to the woman at the table behind us who is British, Remick remarks "that woman did theater as a child."  When asked to explain he pointed out the way she talks. Apparently in Remicks mind participating in theater as a child leads to a life long British accent.

The storm

From remick:
The grass is swaying in the wind, like water.
You can actually see the rain over there. It is very windy.  The clouds are dark and gloomy. It feels awesome to be out here.
From Makili: I enjoyed biking up the hill. Even though the rocks were loose it was a shallow up climb.  Biking is FUN!  Kingdom trails have a lot of turns and berms.

From Remick:

I enjoyed Annma's house.  I liked golf.  I want to be as good as Tiger Woods.

I want to.
